Meeting of the Council of the Independent High Authority for Elections

M. Farouk Bouasker, President of the Independent High Authority for Elections, chaired on Friday, May 22, 2026, a meeting of the Authority’s Council, attended by the Council members, the executive administration, and the Council’s office. The following matters were discussed:

1- Review of candidacy files for the partial legislative elections in the El Kabaria electoral district in the Governorate of Tunis, scheduled for Sunday, June 28, 2026.

In this regard, the candidacies of Mr. Mohamed Salah Salmi, Mr. Chaker Bouthouri, and Mr. Hatem Hamzaoui were accepted.

Mr. Abderraouf Trabelsi and Ms. Rim Barhoumi were requested to complete their application files.

2- The remaining candidacy files were rejected for failing to meet the legal requirements.

Review of a request to withdraw the mandate of a member of the local council of Tamaghza in the Governorate of Tozeur.

3- Review of preparations for the periodic draw aimed at renewing the composition of regional councils and rotating the presidency of local and regional councils for the next three months. The draw will be organized across all governorates of the Republic on Sunday, May 31, 2026, with the objective of changing the composition of 24 regional councils and the presidency of 279 local councils.

The executive administration was instructed to take the necessary arrangements to ensure the successful organization of the periodic draw operations.

4- Presentation of the main orientations of the Authority’s draft budget for 2027, particularly as it will be an electoral year for the election of members of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People.

5- Presentation of the provisional financial statements for the year 2025 and authorization to refer them to the external auditors.
