As part of monitoring the ongoing preparations for the organization of the upcoming electoral events, Farouk BOUASKER, President of the Independent High Authority for Elections, chaired a working session on the morning of Wednesday, May 13, 2026, with the various concerned central departments and the Regional Director of Elections in Tunis, in the presence of the members of the Authority’s Council, to examine the following issues:
* The partial legislative elections in the El Kabaria electoral constituency in the Governorate of Tunis, scheduled to take place on June 28, 2026, following the issuance of Decree No. 42 of 2026 dated March 27, 2026 concerning the calling of voters.
* The periodic draw operations related to the rotation of membership within regional councils and the rotation of presidency among local and regional councils, which will be organized on Sunday, May 31, 2026, across all governorates of the Republic.
At the beginning of the session, presentations were delivered by the Central Director of Electoral Operations and the Regional Director of Elections in Tunis regarding the main data related to the ongoing preparations for organizing the partial legislative elections in El Kabaria in accordance with the electoral calendar, as well as statistics concerning the number of candidacies and endorsements registered so far to fill the vacant seat in this electoral constituency.
Following this, the floor was opened for discussion among the participants, including members of the Authority’s Council, representatives of the central departments, and the Regional Director in Tunis, on the means likely to ensure the success of these electoral events.
At the conclusion of the session, the President of the Authority stressed the importance attached by the Authority’s Council to implementing the recommendations issued during previous meetings, particularly those related to benefiting from the extensive experience accumulated by the Authority in the field of election management. This would allow all appropriate regulatory, organizational, and logistical measures to be taken in order to organize the partial legislative elections and the periodic draw operations under the best possible conditions and within the legally prescribed deadlines, while relying primarily on the Authority’s own human and financial resources to organize these electoral events with minimal expenditure, thereby strengthening governance and rationalizing spending.
The President of the Authority also called for enhancing communication efforts at the level of each regional administration by broadcasting the periodic draw operations live on each administration’s official page, in order to ensure greater transparency and enable broad monitoring of these operations by members of local councils and by observers of regional and local affairs in general.
Furthermore, as part of the Authority Council’s commitment to facilitating procedures for candidates in the El Kabaria partial legislative elections, the President of the Authority called on the Regional Directorate of Elections in Tunis to keep the office dedicated to the certification of signatures for popular endorsements open on Saturday and Sunday, May 16–17, 2026, in order to enable candidates to complete the signature certification procedures and remedy deficiencies in their application files.
